Our Novel Technology
Why Vertical Axis Wind Turbines (VAWT) instead of horizontal axis wind turbines (HAWT)?

-
VAWT are much cheaper to produce.
-
VAWT are more efficient.
-
VAWT are much quieter because the tip speed of a HAWT can be ten times the wind speed, a relatively high Mach number. With VAWT the tip speed ratio is about two, so the blades rotate at about 250 RPM with a speed of around 40mph.
Starting
VAWT will not self-start, so the generator on our wind turbine acts as a 3-phase brushless motor, powering up the turbine to its most efficient speed, a solid-state anemometer detects even the lowest of wind speeds and extracts what little power there is efficiently at the right rotor RPM.

At medium to low wind speeds, a sensor predicts the amount of power that is available and reduces the load on the generator to allow the turbine to spin at its most efficient speed.

Optimised
Each unit has some artificial intelligence and will tune/ optimise the generator load depending on conditions and placement.

Some of the cleverer VAWT use the lower voltage available at lower wind speeds and convert it to 48v using a "buck converter", (charging a capacitor at a lower voltage and then discharging it a 48v), these are about 50% efficient, so you are throwing away 50% of your power, as heat.

Our unit has four 7.5 Ah. 12v batteries which are charged in either series or in parallel depending upon conditions.

You only see the 48v output, as with a solar panel.
